Graduation, Comcen, Stoptober and Andy Williams.

Ok, the title doesn't exactly make sense, but it will when you've read the post!

I'll start with graduation and Comcen. First of all, I know it's a rite of passage etc, but it's the most boring rite of passage I've ever had the pleasure of taking part in! And no-one tells you how much of a shock the real-world is going to be! Since graduating in July, the search for work has been my main priority (although I did feel like giving up a few times!) For the most part I felt like I was getting absolutely nowhere! Despite a few interviews, the one thing that always seemed to be my downfall was a lack of 'professional experience'. To put it as articulately as I can, all I could think was .... Well DUH! That was until Comcen, where immediately in the interview it was explained that the position would be as much of a learning curve for them as it would be for me. That was refreshing! Within a few hours I had been offered the job and relief crept in. Not only did I have the job, I had a job I actually wanted to do! It took a lot of time and effort searching for work but that seems like nothing now. So basically the moral of the story for any graduates still looking for work is just keep trying! I know it's easy to say that now, but it really does work! Of course there is an element of luck and sometimes it feels like it's never going to happen, but you will get there eventually.

So I was going to keep it short and sweet for this week but the post just keeps growing. As far as being a grown-up and having a grown-up job goes, so far so good! As I’m sure most of you have (or will at some point) experienced, the first day was a bit scary, not having much idea of how things worked or what to do! But my first week as the newest member of Comcen’s online team flew by and now I'm properly into the swing of things (even the 6:30am alarm).
I turned up a week ago today having no idea what to expect, but I now feel so comfortable it's like I've been here for years. Like I said before it was hard work getting to this point, but I've definitely been very lucky, not only in getting the job but also it being somewhere as lively and welcoming as Comcen. I'm basically spending my time here trying to build up our social networks and raise awareness of Comcen and the great deals we have to offer, which is easier said than done (so if you want to head over to Facebook and give us a cheeky 'like' it would be appreciated!) I'm also going to get us started on a professional blog that will feature on the website, but I will be posting some of our particularly good deals and discounts on computer supplies and accessories here to keep you in the loop as well! We also have some pretty good competitions coming up, especially if you're in the South Wales area so I'll make sure they find their way on here as well.
I would also like you (whoever you may be!) to help me out a bit. Have a look around the Comcen Website and let me know what appeals to you the most or what you would most like to change. It would be a massive help!
Now to Stoptober. Thinking about it, it probably doesn't deserve a title place but definitely a mention. This is the heavily advertised time in which the NHS is encouraging all you smokers to stop, if only for the month. I'm not sure it's working. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea and I'm all for people quitting smoking but on my way to work this morning it seems that every single person I passed was puffing away, paying absolutely no attention to Stoptober. Now I've heard about it at least once a day for the last few weeks on TV and through conversation etc, have you all heard about it? If you're a smoker are you taking part? I totally get the idea, but do you think they could have done more to advertise it?
On another note, myself and the Comcen team were sad to hear of the passing of one of our favourite crooners, Andy Williams. We were listening to the radio happily bobbing along to an afternoon of Andy Williams last thursday, not realising it was a tribute show. So to round off here’s a little tribute to him. As always please leave your thoughts, comments, questions and suggestions below.
